Great Bend, KS — Central Kansas Christian Academy (CKCA) is happy to announce its participation in the 5th Annual Earth Day Celebration at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event promises a fun-filled, educational day for families and community members, with CKCA hosting a booth offering Earth Day giveaways.
The celebration marks the zoo’s fifth year hosting this popular event, which features a variety of activities designed to promote environmental awareness and conservation. A highlight this year is a visit from the beloved Curious George, hosted by Smoky Hills PBS, who will be available for photos and meet-and-greets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Attendees will be among the first 500 visitors to receive a reusable Earth Day bag, along with a coupon for a free ice cream cone at Dairy Queen, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Eldridge Fencing, Sunflower Diversified, Dairy Queen, Anderson Schwarz, and Freedom Claims Management.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy interactive exhibits from various educational vendors. The Great Bend Zoological Society will provide popcorn, and Sunflower Diversified will offer giveaways and information on their services. Zookeepers will be on hand with animal meet-and-greets and keeper chats, offering insight into daily animal care, enrichment, and conservation efforts behind the scenes.
Food vendors such as Avast Ye Java, Freaking Delicious Cheesecake, and Soda Bop will be serving in the parking lot. A kids’ fun zone, featuring bounce houses and face painting, will be set up at the zoo’s entrance.
In case of inclement weather, activities will be moved indoors to the Raptor Center and Ed Shed building. Please note that bounce houses may be unavailable if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
CKCA’s participation aligns with our mission as a Christian school, emphasizing God's role as the Creator of the earth and our calling to care for His creation. We invite the community to join us in celebrating Earth Day with us.
